The O’Hare Flyer is announced. Here is what we know.

O’Hare Flyer LLC unveiled its plan today at the Old Post Office: a battery-electric express between a new underground station at Canal and Van Buren and O’Hare Terminal 2, every fifteen minutes, 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., at an average of about 80 mph. The sponsor says it will raise $2.25 billion privately and seek City Council approval in the first half of 2027.

The route uses CSX track in the Eisenhower trench, Union Pacific land on the Near West Side, and a dormant Canadian National line north through River Forest, Thatcher Woods, Franklin Park, and Schiller Park. It makes no stops between downtown and the airport. CSX has signed a letter of intent; Union Pacific says there is no agreement; Canadian National says talks are ongoing.
